Knaack, a division of Werner Co., is seeking a Design Engineer to be responsible for development of new products from concept through production. This includes part, assembly design, documentation, validation and launch. As a member of the research and development team, you would be responsible for bringing forth innovation regarding the generation of patent disclosures, 3D CAD modeling of piece part components and assemblies, technical analysis and testing, FEA Simulations and Analysis, part number and BOM creation.

 Key Responsibilities:
  • Strongly contribute to driving innovation and creativity in our new product development from conception through production.
  • Strive to deliver on commitments meeting cost, timing and performance criteria on new products.
  • Contribute to problem solving and continuous improvement teams.
  • Apply engineering discipline and strong experimental technique to complex problems.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across the cross functional organization. Initiate design reviews and FMEA’s.
  • Champion Design for Manufacturability and Value Engineering.
  • Participate in core team activities on all new product programs including customer visits and trade shows.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design preferred.
  • Experience developing consumer products ideal.
  • One+ years of new product development experience.
  • Experience with low volume, high mix sheet metal fabrication operations.
  • Experience with 3-D CAD modeling and design.
  • Experience with FEA Simulation and Analysis.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or SolidEdge desired.
  • Strong familiarity with Stage Gate development processes.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience operating successfully in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to travel as needed. Potential travel less than 20%. Possible international travel.
